An American actress and former child model, Amanda is best known for her roles as Sophie Sheridan in the feature film Mamma Mia! and as Karen in Mean Girls. She is currently appearing in the critically acclaimed HBO series, Big Love. This fall, Seyfried will be seen starring in the Fox film, Jennifer’s Body, written by Diablo Cody (Juno). She will then star in the Lasse Hallstrom directed film, Dear John, the adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel (The Notebook). She began filming Chloe in Toronto in February 2009. It is a remake of the French film Nathalie, also starring Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore. Her other credits include Veronica Mars, Alpha Dog and Rodrigo Garcia’s Nine Lives.
Mikhail Baryshnikov, one of the most celebrated artists in the dance world, joined the world of Movado in 2004. He has danced more than 100 different works in his illustrious career and most of the world's foremost choreographers have created works especially for him. In addition to his dancing, Baryshnikov has made a cultural impact with his acting career, starring in several films, as well as working in television and performing on Broadway. Mr. Baryshnikov has received numerous awards and honorary degrees, most recently the 2000 Kennedy Center Honors, the National Medal of the Arts, the Commonwealth Award, the Jerome Robbins' Award and Yale University's highest honor -- the Chubb Fellowship. His present endeavor, the Baryshnikov Arts Center, is a laboratory for new work and a creative haven for emerging artists. Movado supports this organization by sponsoring the Movado Hour program, a series of hour-long chamber music concerts presented in a salon setting.
Kerry Washington, critically lauded actress, won the award for “Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture” for “Ray” at the NAACP Image Awards in 2005, after receiving a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award for “Best Actress” for the film “Lift” in 2002. She garnered critical acclaim for her latest roles: including: “I Think I Love My Wife” opposite Chris Rock, the “The Last King of Scotland” opposite Forest Whitaker for which she was nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture” at the NAACP Image Awards in 2007, and The Dead Girl opposite Marcia Gay Harden and Brittany Murphy. Other film credits include “Fantastic Four”, “Against the Ropes”, “The United States of Leland”, “The Human Stain”, “Bad Company” and “Save the Last Dance”, for which she received a Teen Choice Award for Best Breakout Performance. She will next be seen in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in the summer of ’07. She became associated with Movado in 2005.
Wynton Marsalis is undeniably the best known jazz trumpeter of his generation. He began his classical training on the trumpet at age 12 and has recorded more than 50 jazz and classical recordings, which have won him nine Grammy Awards. In 1983, he became the first and only artist to win both classical and jazz Grammys in the same year, and repeated this feat in 1984. In 1997, Mr. Marsalis became the first jazz artist to be awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in music, for his oratorio Blood on the Fields, which was commissioned by Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC). Mr. Marsalis is also an internationally respected teacher and spokesman for music education, and has received honorary doctorates from dozens of universities and colleges throughout the U.S. On March 20, 2001, Mr. Marsalis was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Mr. Marsalis has been since inception the Artistic Director of JALC where he led the effort to construct JALC's new home - Frederick P. Rose Hall - the first education, performance, and broadcast facility devoted to jazz. Movado has been associated with Mr. Marsalis since 1998.
Pete Sampras is known as one of the most successful tennis players of the modern era. His special combination of skill, determination and consistency has won the admiration of fans and fellow professionals alike. Sampras joined the professional tennis tour in 1988 at age 16. He won his first professional tournament in 1990, and became associated with Movado in 1991. Sampras reached the No. 1 ranking for the first time in his career in 1993, going on to win more Grand Slam Championships (14) than any other men's player in tennis history. He also held the year-end No. 1 world ranking for a record six consecutive years (1993-1998).
Derek Jeter – humanitarian, leader, athlete – joins Movado's prestigious roster of talent in the Movado art of performance advertising campaign for the new Movado Series 800. Born June 26, 1974, baseball superstar Derek Jeter was drafted by the New York Yankees as the sixth overall pick in the 1992 Major League Baseball draft. He played his first Major League game against the Seattle Mariners in 1995. In 1996, Jeter played his first full Major League season and not only won the American League Rookie of the Year Award, he also helped his team win their first World Series title since 1978. Jeter, a seven-time All Star, has gone on to lead his team to 3 additional World Series titles in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Also in 2000, Jeter became the first player ever to be named MVP of both the All-Star game and the World Series in a single season. In 2005, Jeter captured his second of two consecutive Golden Glove awards, and he has made 12 straight appearances in the post-season. Jeter's work off the field rivals his efforts on it. In 1996, his rookie season, Jeter founded the "Turn 2 Foundation" to create and support activities and programs designed to motivate youth to "turn to" a healthy lifestyle, academic achievement and leadership development, while turning away from substances like drugs and alcohol. The Turn 2 Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, and to date has awarded more than $6 million in support of its signature programs in West Michigan, Tampa and New York City.
Quarterback Thomas (Tom) Brady - strategist, athlete, MVP - joins Movado's prestigious roster of talent in the Movado art of performance advertising campaign for the new Movado Series 800. Born August 3, 1977, Brady joined the National Football League's New England Patriots in 2000 and has quickly established himself as one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL today. He is the only quarterback in NFL history to start and win three Super Bowls before his 28th birthday, having led the Patriots to victories in Super Bowl XXXVI when he was 24 years old, Super Bowl XXXVIII (26) and Super Bowl XXXIX (27). Brady is also only the fourth quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to three or more Super Bowl wins, joining Terry Bradshaw (4), Joe Montana (4) and Troy Aikman (3). Brady owns two Pete Rozelle Awards as Super Bowl MVP (XXXVI and XXXVIII). He is just the fourth player in Super Bowl history to earn multiple MVP awards, joining Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw and Bart Starr, all three of whom are enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Brady works hard off of the field as well. During 2003 training camp, Brady worked with the Starlight Children's Foundation of New England, a non-profit group dedicated to enriching the quality of life for seriously ill children. Over the past few years, Brady has also visited injured soldiers to help raise their spirits.
