Arman – “The Colour of Time”
The French-born, world famous painter/sculptor Arman (1928 – 2005) used an extraordinary range of media and materials in his artistic statements over a period of 50 years.
In 1990, he was commissioned to create a work for the Movado Artists’ Series. The resulting timepiece which he named “The Colour of Time” is a unique exploration of his recurring theme, “Time as the enemy of man”. On the dial, each of the hours is represented by a coloured brush stroke; the hours and minutes indicated by two “brushes” painted on rotating discs of wafer-thin glass. The fine black leather strap appears to be joined to the case by two miniature brushes laden with red and yellow paint.
